The perseverance and persistence of Grand Master Carlos Gracie

Jiu-Jitsu is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. This fight, which was formerly associated to the ‘pitboys’ (nickname for tough and bad guys in Brazil in some past decades) now is a martial art comprising the most different kinds of groups and people. Jiu-Jitsu’s past could eliminate the expectation from the practitioners themselves about taking that as a profession and actually making a living out of it.

Living teaching classes? Wearing a kimono and teaching the techniques and philosophy of the gentle art seemed to be something impossible. How would someone get interested in that? And the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s father, Great Master Carlos Gracie, would also ask himself about that. But in the 50’s it was even more complicated. A sportsman was not taken that seriously, and showing to someone who was not involved with the fight world that learning a fight could change their lives sounded like craziness.

Well, but the JJ father did believe that his art could and should be spread. It has been numerous open fights, challenges taken and won.

In 2014 the continuity of the Great Master’s life project reflected on his son, Carlos Gracie Jr., the founder of our team and family Gracie Barra.  Nowadays, that dream of taking THE JIU-JITSU TO EVERYONE is seen as a mission. Every day, we take a step forward when a teacher make it real his/her dream of making a living teaching Jiu-Jitsu.

Believe you too and join us, at the world’s best Jiu-Jitsu school.
